The time of Lent and preparation of Easter is approaching. Each year we work toward the balance of providing concrete activities for young children of what can be abstract concepts of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each class will be discussing Lent and participating in activities that show how we can live life more like Jesus, the meaning of prayer, and asking for forgiveness. We also visit the church and review the Stations of the Cross. We hope to give children the foundation of the Lenton season by exposing them to common vocabulary and traditions celebrated.
Pre-K: The pre-k class has been busy re-using, recycling, and reducing. The unit on recycling has really taken off and children have been exploring how materials are used and disposed of after consumption. Ms. S has also been developing reading groups. During reading groups, children are practicing pre-reading concepts such as phonetic awareness, sounds and beats, rhyming, and sentence structure. Each group is tailored to meet the needs of where each child is developmentally. Caterpillars & Butterflies: This winter has been very mild, but that has not stopped the threes and fours from exploring snow. The classes have been working on concepts such as hot and cold. There are a few days they were able to put snow in the sensory table, but not as many as last year! Mrs. Richards and Mrs. Abel have started the "Star Student" program. Each week a child has a turn to share their favorite foods, traditions, and family.
